At Fredericksburg Christian School, we treat technology both as a teaching tool and a learned skill for both educators and students. As an institution of college-preparatory learning, we are called to prepare our students for the world in which we live. This mission requires FCS to not only prepare the students entrusted into our care for ministry but also for the working world as well, and technology is now a part of almost any career choice. We must equip both our teachers and students with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the fields which God has called them.

"Therefore whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."
                                                                                                 (1 Corinthians 10:31)

Fredericksburg Christian School has chosen to work with Global Academics' School Technology Program, which includes a technology partnership with the University of Richmond. We feel that this partnership brings a strong technology curriculum which can be integrated with other academic subject areas, such as language arts, math, science, and social studies. The topics and curriculum can then be molded to retain the Christ-centered format we strive for in all our courses.

At the Elementary level, students begin to learn basic computer and document creation skills, including the development of spreadsheets, databases, presentations and desktop publications. Our philosophy is to instill confidence in their skills, creativity and problem-solving ability as well as to build enthusiasm for new challenges to come.

The Middle School approach adapts to the rise in the students' skills and maturity levels by providing a more in-depth curriculum and a more advanced environment. The principles of constructive curiosity, expression and accountability are instilled into the program. Students are given research topics and provided guidance on using the Internet as a resource and are allowed broader creative expression in their projects. More advanced technology is made available to them to use in presenting their work.

In High School, students are given the chance to display and hone their technology skills in various student-led technology projects integrated into normal coursework. In addition to advanced Microsoft Office projects integrated into other classes, students are also given the opportunity to learn more advanced technology skills such as web design, computer programming, and desktop publishing. They can also take classes such as Entrepreneur or Life Skills, which, while offering unique learning opportunities, allow students to create college or professional-level projects which they can add to a growing portfolio of documents they can take with them and reuse.

Fredericksburg Christian School's philosophy of technology in education does not stop with students. In order to prepare our students, our educators are trained and equipped to meet their needs. Technology education should start with the teachers first; when they are confident in their skills they will be able to incorporate it into their curriculum. Professional development opportunities for technology are provided throughout the year, along with followup discussions to allow teachers to share with each other how they are using their new skills. Our philosophy is to provide educators with appropriate equipment and skills necessary to reach the ever-changing generations of students.
